The Swedish City of Gothenburg is a top international destination for sustainability according to the ICCA Global Destination Sustainability Index. This will be reaffirmed when Gothenburg hosts the Longines FEI European Equestrian Championships on 21–27 August. Almost 600 horses are in central Gothenburg to compete during the European Equestrian Championship week. The estimated 300 tonnes of horse manure produced will be collected and used as fuel for district heating and electricity.

All the manure will be collected by the municipal waste management company Renova and converted into energy, around 360 000 kWh of district heating and 60 000 kWh of electricity.
Gothenburg is the world’s most sustainable destination, so when Longines FEI European Equestrian Championships comes to town, it goes without saying that we work for sustainability during the championship. Generating energy from all the horse manure is part of our sustainability work during the Championship, said Katarina Thorstensson, Sustainability Manager at Göteborg & Co.
Longines FEI European Championships is being organised in close cooperation with Svenska Ridsportförbundet, Got Event AB and Göteborg & Co.
