Malmberg to supply biogas upgrading to Denmark’s largest AD plant

Sweden-headed wastewater treatment and biogas technology providers MalmbergGruppen AB has announced that its subsidiary Malmberg Water AB (Malmberg) has been selected by Danish biogas major NGF Nature Energy A/S (NGF) to supply a biogas upgrading plant to NGF's Videbæk biogas facility in western Denmark.

According to Malmberg, it will be the fifth Malmberg upgrading plant for NGF. The Videbæk biogas facility is currently one of Denmark’s largest anaerobic digestion (AD) plants. Here NGF cooperates here with dairy processing major Arla, which supplies residual products for digestion.

We are pleased to announce that we will continue the good cooperation with Malmberg. An upgrade like this means that we can produce even more biogas, which will support the green transition in Videbæk and the rest of the municipality. We are moving with solid steps in the right direction once again with support from Malmberg, said Ole Hvelplund, CEO of NGF Nature Energy.

With Malmberg’s upgrade facility in place, renewable natural gas (RNG) will be injected into the gas network replacing fossil natural gas in the same amount. NGF Nature Energy

The deal is worth “several million EUR” and the upgrading plant is Malmberg’s latest development called GR50 with a capacity to upgrade 5 000 Nm3 biogas per hour into the biomethane. The plant is designed for “zero-emission” where the VOC/CH4 – methane slip emissions – are below 50 mg/Nm3.

Also with a process-integrated hydrogen sulphide (H2S) reduction will also eliminate significant costs for carbon filters that are normally used for this purpose.

With this facility, we at Malmberg Biogas take a new step in our development of upgrade facilities that look to the customer’s every need. Not only that our plants are the most reliable on the market. Here we have introduced a number of innovative functions such as Malmberg BioX and Malmberg VOC, which make the plant unique in its kind in terms of the Life Cycle Cost (LCC), said Erik Malmberg, CEO of Malmberg Water AB

Denmark is a leader in “green gas” deployment and Malmberg has supplied over 100 biogas upgrading plants in the world of which 13 are located in Denmark. Malmberg will deliver the plant during 2019 and is expected to be ready for gas production at the end of January 2020.
