Denmark's largest biogas producer NGF Nature Energy A/S has officially opened its Korskro biogas plant. Held on May 20, 2019, it was officiated by the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation Ulla Tørnæs (V)."From the Korskro to Slotholmen, to Brussels and Europe and beyond. Wherever we look, there is a great potential for Danish biogas solutions and having another green lighthouse in Denmark showing the world where the green change can happen", said Minister Ulla Tørnæs in her address.
Korskro is considered the most livestock-intensive area in Denmark. The biogas plant will process approximately 710 000 tonnes of biomass annually of which around 85 percent will be livestock manure and deep bedding from cattle, pigs, and mink supplied by approximately 100 farmers.
The balance will comprise of food waste, organic waste from industry and retail, and energy crops.
When the first phase of the plant is completed, it will be able to produce around 22 million Nm3 of biomethane (aka renewable natural gas – RNG) that will be injected into the natural gas network.
Fully expanded, the plant will be able to process 1 million tonnes of food waste and residual agricultural products annually which would make it one of the world’s largest in terms of processing capacity and production.
