Hosted by US-headed RISI Inc., a global forest industry information provider, the Pulp & Paper International (PPI) Awards are the only annual global awards that are dedicated to recognizing the achievement of companies, production sites and individuals in the pulp and paper sector. Finland-headed pulp and paper industry majors, Metsä Fibre and Ahlstrom-Munksjö, want to promote safety within the pulp and paper industry and have jointly decided to initiate a global safety award for the sector.
Safety is an important part of employer branding, wellbeing at work and it also creates a competitive advantage. Continuous development and sharing best practices in developing safety is important.

The aim of the new safety award is to recognize a pulp or paper production plant for their consistent management and meritorious commitment to occupational safety, long-term performance and to encourage their continuous improvement in safety.
Safety is a shared responsibility. Both Ahlstrom-Munksjö and Metsä Fibre are highly committed to safety issues, and we have already safety collaboration. Joining forces in RISI PPI awards and creating a new category for Safety award felt natural for both of us. We wanted to collaborate on a safety award, in order to be in the forefront of safety for our workers and promote safety within the industry, said Rune Årnes Vice President Health & Safety, Ahlstrom-Munksjö.
The 2019 PPI Awards will be held on March 12, 2019, as part of RISI’s 21st European Conference to be held in Vienna, Austria.
