BIOGAS AMERICAS, the annual trade show, and conference for the American Biogas Council (ABC) broke its own record this week as the largest gathering of biogas professionals in North America – with 1 500 attendees and 150 exhibitors from 30 different countries that convened in Chicago, Illinois (IL).

According to the organizers, the trade show doubled in size from 2022’s event and attendance was 40 percent higher, reflecting the fast-growing biogas industry in North America which is also experiencing double-digit growth in the number of new biogas systems coming online each year.
Investors, developers, and vendors alike are clamoring at the opportunity to build more biogas systems that simultaneously address several environmental challenges while also creating new rural and urban jobs. BIOGAS AMERICAS has become the place to accelerate the growth of the biogas industry and focus on what we can improve to be better environmental stewards and optimize the performance of new biogas systems said Patrick Serfass, Executive Director of ABC.
Conference attendees and exhibitors were also impressed by the growth they saw during the 2023 event.
The expo hall is one of the busiest of any event we’ve been to. The conference program is designed for networking and we find so much value in participating in this event, Katie Hendricks, Mead & Hunt Inc., a national, full-service architectural and engineering firm.
Biogas systems recycle waste while also producing renewable energy and soil products that displace fossil fuels.
The social and networking of the conference are as good as last year, but the content is on steroids this year–it is fantastic! And Operator School was so well done, said Dimitris Theodoridis, OMEX Environmental Ltd, part of OMEX Group, a supplier of enzymatic solutions for biogas applications.
Biogas can play a critical role in abating reliance on foreign sources, creating a domestic, fossil-free source of renewable natural gas (RNG), renewable electricity or heat, as well as non-synthetic fertilizer and soil amendments.
BIOGAS AMERICAS is where we come to meet with the most important clients and industry leaders and we appreciate the opportunity to not only share our knowledge but learn from experts in all sectors, said Laura Roberts, VP of Brand and Marketing at EcoEngineers, a US-based consulting, audit, and advisory firm.
Biogas systems are also one of the most effective solutions for the waste management of organic materials. They protect air, water, and soil by recycling material, like food waste and manure, into renewable energy and soil products while also reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In addition, the digested material from biogas systems has been shown to boost crop yields by up to 10-30 percent compared to chemical fertilizers.
I was going to say attending BIOGAS AMERICAS is like having a month of meetings in one week. But it’s really like six months’ worth, commented Dr Kevin Monson, International Sales Manager, Weltec Biopower North America.
The next edition of BIOGAS AMERICAS is slated to be held May 13-16, 2024, in Savannah, Georgia (GA).
