Since its founding in 2003, Solör Bioenergy Group has grown into a leading Scandinavian renewable energy provider. With operations in 141 locations, primarily in Sweden and Norway, the group produces and supplies over 2 TWh annually of district heating, steam, and electricity to the residential and commercial space heating sectors, and industry.
The operations at Åsnes Fjernvarme consist of a biomass-heat plant with associated district heating networks in Flisa in Åsnes municipality. The previous owner has built the plant over the past five years and it currently supplies about 6 GWh annually.
With headquarters in Kirkenær, just 20 km from Flisa and operations in nearby Haslemoen, Solør Bioenergi intends to further develop the business in close cooperation with local authorities and customers.
Through the local presence, Solør Bioenergi has good conditions for getting a close, good, and rational operating plan for Åsnes district heating in the future. Focus on district heating has been – and is – very important for achieving overall climate goals and has phased out significant amounts of fossil fuels. In addition, district heating releases a lot of electrical capacity that reduces society’s investments in the electricity grid. This, in turn, means that electricity can be used for better purposes than heat, for example for electricity charging, said Hans M. Moss, COO Biomass & DH Norway, Solør Bioenergi.
As part of the deal, Eidsiva Bioenergi will take over Solør Bioenergi’s heat plant in Brumunddal and a smaller plant in Åkershagan/Kionerud in Stange municipality.
The district heating development in Brumunddal is based on good collaboration between Eidsiva and Solør Bioenergi since 2008. Both parties now agree that the best industrial solution is for the heating plant and the district heating networks to come under the same ownership, said Ola Børke, Director of Eidsiva Bioenergi.
