The City of South Portland has partnered with Maine Standard Biofuels (MSB) in a pilot programme to use locally made biodiesel in select city vehicles.
The US City of South Portland, Maine has announced that it has partnered with biodiesel producer Maine Standard Biofuels (MSB) in a pilot programme to use locally made biodiesel in select city vehicles. The city will use a B20 blended fuel containing up to 20 percent locally made biodiesel. The pilot project will run for a full year to test the efficiency of the fuel in all conditions, including during the coldest months. If successful, the City plans to incorporate biodiesel into the fuel for the entire fleet.
MSB uses used cooking oil (UCO) as feedstock to produce biodiesel at its Portland-based facility. The company collects UCO from restaurants all over New England, including South Portland. In addition, residues from the biodiesel process are further processed into clean energy and eco-friendly cleaning products.
