According to court records from the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas, Illinois-based Synata Bio Inc., is the winning bidder for Abengoa SA’s 25 million gallon (≈ 95 million litres) per annum cellulosic ethanol plant in Hugoton, Kansas. Founded earlier this year Synata Bio owns patented cellulosic ethanol technology previously owned by Coskata Inc. Posting a bid of US$48.5 million Synata outbid Shell that was the “stalking-horse” bidder for the auction, setting the starting price at US$26 million. However, Shell remains as the backup bid should Synata Bio fail to close on the deal, which is set for 8 December.
