In the UK, Tata Chemicals Europe (TCE) has reached an agreement with Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant Ltd (LSEP), a joint venture formed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners K/S (CIP) and FCC Environment Group, which will now fund, own, construct and operate the new energy from waste plant (EFW) on the site of the old coal-fired Tata power station at Lostock Works near Northwich in Cheshire.
The agreement represents a GBP480 million investment (≈ EUR 555.3 million), one of the largest investments at the Lostock site, and will contribute to the UK Government’s strategy to reduce landfill and the export of waste.
The Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant (LSEP) is a 90 MW energy-from-waste (EfW) facility located at the Lostock Works site and will recover energy, cleanly and safely, from approximately 600 000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) – the residual waste left over after reusable and recyclable material has been removed.
A joint venture between two major construction companies, CNIM and Clugston, was formed to build the facility but unfortunately, Clugston went into administration in December 2019.
To ensure the uninterrupted continuation of construction and the successful delivery of the project, CNIM has taken on Clugston’s employees at this and four other sites in the UK. Enabling works to prepare the site for construction are being undertaken by the Carey Group.
