Tigercat launch new harvester head and updated cab

Tigercat has launched a new dangle-style harvesting head with sawbar and dual feed-rollers.

Canada-based forest equipment manufacturer Tigercat has launched a new addition to its range of harvesting heads, the Tigercat 570. A dangle-style head with sawbar and dual feed-rollers it is designed to be most productive working with softwood and hardwood trees in the 15-50 cm (6-20 in) diameter range. Although best suited to the Tigercat H845 series carriers, the 570 is designed to work with the H822 and H855 series carriers or a 20-25 tonne forestry excavator.

The new head utilizes several structural and hydraulic features of the larger 575 head such as wheel arms, pins, bushings, cylinders, feed motors and rotator. It features a new integrated valve package with fewer hoses and connections to improve reliability. Dual-purpose harvesting and processing knives — with replaceable blades and tips — come standard with independent cylinders. According to Tigercat, this feature allows the knives to follow the stem profile, improving control and delimbing quality not least for crooked or heavily limbed stems.

The company has also revealed operator cab upgrades and ergonomic improvements to its G-series drive-to-tree feller bunchers. These include built in LED work lights for improved reliability and brightness over the previous halogen models, larger window areas, revamped cab heating and cooling as well as noise reduction. Both announcements come ahead of the upcoming Demo International forestry trade show to be held in September outside Vancouver, British Columbia (BC).
