According to statistics released by the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine (SAEE), 66 MW of new renewable power capacity was installed during the first quarter 2017. Of this new installed capacity, 60 MW was solar power.
The 66 MW installed capacity Q1 2017 is over 50 percent of the 120 MW total renewable power capacity installed during 2016, which in turn was quadruple the total installed renewable power capacity in 2015.
Statistics clearly demonstrates that renewable power development rates have accelerated. It is significantly influenced by the Law of Ukraine # 514-VIII, which improved the system of “green” tariffs developed together with the SAEE and adopted by the Parliament in 2015, said Sergiy Savchuk, Chairman and Head of SAEE in a comment.
Savchuk said that under the current law the “green” feed-in tariff (FIT) is fixed to the EUR to 2030 in order to avoid the risk of inflation. Furthermore, the requirement for local content had been removed. At the same time, a premium over and above the FIT was introduced for Ukrainian equipment usage and in 2017, a premium was also introduced for micro hydropower.
