Czech-headed turbomachinery major Doosan Škoda Power, a Doosan Group subsidiary, has revealed that it has been selected to supply and install a 67 MW steam turbine and auxiliaries for the Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) in the UK.

Along with the turbine, Doosan Škoda Power is supplying the generator, excitation transformer, oil system, and high-pressure hydraulic system. It is a turn-key solution, the value of which has not been disclosed, that includes assembly and on-site commissioning.
Assembly is scheduled to be completed by October 2020 and the first steam should be generated in late March 2021.
We have been working with Doosan Skoda Power on several projects before and we are looking forward to being able to rely on their expertise again in this important infrastructure project in the UK, said Kaan Türkyilmaz, Project Procurement Manager at Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI).
Already en route
Despite complications caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the turbine was manufactured and shipped two months ahead of the deadline specified in the contract.
At the beginning of May, ČEZ Distribution engineers assisted with the transport of the excess cargo, which weighed more than 240 tonnes, to the Port of Lovosice by lifting the power lines along the route.
From Lovosice, the cargo will head to the Port of Hamburg in Germany and then continue through the Port of Tilbury in the UK to its final destination.
We are already implementing similar projects for Hitachi Zosen Inova in Istanbul, Turkey, and most recently in Newhurst in the UK. Our turbines, which are suitable for a wide range of applications, including the generation of electricity from waste, thus contribute to reducing the amount of municipal waste worldwide which would otherwise end up in unsightly suburban landfills. We are proud to be able to participate in beneficial projects like this, said Tomáš Starý, Project Manager at Doosan Škoda Power.
