Under the agreement, Coregas will take green hydrogen from Jemena’s AU$15 million Western Sydney Green Gas Project. The only Australian-owned industrial gases company, Coregas is applying decades of expertise in hydrogen storage, compression, and distribution to support the development of Australia’s hydrogen economy.

Coregas is committed to initiatives that drive innovation for cleaner energy and hydrogen is a priority for us. Our agreement with Jemena is a crucial step forward, and we are excited to be able to provide green hydrogen to customers across NSW from 2022. The agreement with Jemena underpins Coregas’ commitment to developing Australia’s hydrogen economy and complements our work on the Port Kembla commercial hydrogen refueling station, our years supporting the hydrogen fuel needs of automotive companies such as Hyundai Australia, and our own commitment to a more sustainable future demonstrated by our purchase of Australia’s first two hydrogen-powered heavy trucks, said Alan Watkins, Executive General Manager, Coregas.

Co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the power-to-gas (PtG) project is converting renewable electricity to hydrogen gas.

We know that green hydrogen has the immediate potential to become a viable zero-emission alternative to many petroleum-based fossil fuels currently used by industries such as remote power generation and the transport sector, particularly for heavy vehicles, said Gabrielle Sycamore, General Manager for Renewable Gas, Jemena.
