OKQ8 invests in hydrogen for sustainable mobility

In Sweden, OKQ8 AB, one of the largest fuel retail companies in the country has announced that it initiated a collaboration with Danish hydrogen producer and supplier Everfuel Denmark A/S (Everfuel) to jointly further the development of the hydrogen trasportation fuel market in Sweden. The goal is to enable a hydrogen network at OKQ8 in the coming years and the ambition is to have opened ten dispensers at OKQ8 filling stations by 2024.

The companies see the collaboration as an important part of increasing the supply of green hydrogen as a fuel, a contributing factor to a society with reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

We want to help our customers switch and hydrogen is an exciting alternative for the future and an important step for Sweden to be able to achieve set climate goals. We need strong partnerships to enable the rapid development of the hydrogen market in Sweden, and Everfuel has solid knowledge and experience in the area, said Karin Hellgren, Head of Communications at OKQ8.

The ambition is to, initially, open ten hydrogen dispensers at existing OKQ8 filling stations by 2024. Primary proposals are currently Malmö, Trelleborg, Stockholm, and Gothenburg, and stations in between. The exact locations will be announced on an ongoing basis.

Initially, the hydrogen network will focus on heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) but will also be open to passenger vehicles. The hope is that the investment will signal the be the start of green hydrogen as a transportation fuel in Sweden and give more customers an opportunity to switch from fossil fuels to more climate-smart alternatives.

The idea is to together and in dialogue with customers develop more stations and open these as the opportunity arises.

We need strong partners like OKQ8 to drive the transition to emission-free mobility. Their leading position in Sweden with an extensive service station network complements our expertise in safe and efficient production, distribution, and refueling of green hydrogen to end-users, said Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO of Everfuel.

Green hydrogen is part of OKQ8’s investment in sustainable fuels, such as HVO100, E85, and biomethane, as well as the expansion of Sweden’s largest super-fast electric vehicle (EV) charger network.
