Hong Kong-headed EcoCeres, Inc., an Asia-based innovative biorefinery company, has announced that it has shipped its first batch of waste-based sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Tanjung Langsat Port in Johor, Malaysia to Europe, marking a major milestone in advancing aviation decarbonization and positioning Malaysia as a key regional hub for renewable aviation fuels.
The shipment from Tanjung Langsat Port marks the fulfillment of a key commitment made earlier this year to deliver the company’s first batch of SAF from Malaysia before the end of 2025.
It represents a major operational and strategic milestone for EcoCeres, highlighting both its growing role in aviation decarbonization and Malaysia’s emergence as a competitive SAF hub in Southeast Asia.
This inaugural SAF shipment is more than a logistical achievement – it is proof that waste-based sustainable aviation fuel is moving from vision to reality at an industrial scale. Shipping SAF produced in Johor to customers in Europe demonstrates that Asia can be a powerful engine for the global transition to lower-carbon aviation, said Matti Lievonen, CEO of EcoCeres.
Strengthening Malaysia’s role as a SAF hub
With this first export cargo, EcoCeres is taking an important step toward positioning Malaysia as a key production and logistics base for renewable aviation fuels in Southeast Asia.
By leveraging Malaysia’s location, industrial ecosystem, and access to regional feedstock and trade routes, EcoCeres aims to contribute to the country’s ambition to attract sustainable investments and build a robust renewable fuels value chain.
Scaling production to meet growing demand
Global demand for SAF is accelerating as airlines, corporate travelers, and regulators converge around more ambitious climate targets and emerging SAF mandates.
In this context, EcoCeres remains focused on scaling production, strengthening supply chains, and delivering reliable SAF solutions that support the aviation industry’s transition.
EcoCeres’ SAF platform is built on 100 percent waste-based feedstocks, converting materials such as used cooking oil (UCO) and other waste oils into lower-carbon jet fuel aligned with circular economy principles.
With the Johor facility now successfully shipping SAF to international markets, EcoCeres is well-positioned to play a growing role in supplying airlines and other aviation stakeholders with credible, scalable decarbonization options.
