Germany-headed biogas technology provider and plant operator EnviTec Biogas AG has announced that it has signed a biomethane offtake contract with compatriot biogas and solar power producer Loick Bioenergie GmbH.
For EnviTec, the agreement with Nordrhein-Westfalen (NRW) based Loick Bioenergie marks the first move into biomethane trading. To date, EnviTec has only marketed biomethane from its own plants.
It’s the first biomethane purchasing contract we’ve signed, said Olaf von Lehmden, CEO of EnviTec Biogas AG.
The agreement covers the supply of a total of 90 GWh of biomethane per year from the three biogas plants operated by Loick Bioenergie in Heiligengrabe, Hennstedt, and Hünxe.
The total contract value is more than EUR 100 million.
We’re very pleased to have found a reliable and highly innovative partner in EnviTec, whom we already know well from our many years in the biogas industry, said Olaf Brandes, Commercial Director at Loick Bioenergie.
To be used for bioLNG
Most of the biomethane supplied will be used from 2024 onwards as an input for the bioLNG liquefaction plant operated by BALANCE EnviTec Bio-LNG GmbH in Berlin-Ahrensfelde.
The future’s bright for plant operators with our most recent joint venture. Our customers can either sell their biomethane to EnviTec directly or utilize our liquefaction plant capacity and then market the resulting bio-LNG product themselves, said Markus Pille, Managing Director of EnviTec Energy GmbH & Co. KG and BALANCE EnviTec Bio-LNG.
Loick Bioenergie is already a customer of EnviTec’s plant construction division and two of its plants are now being fitted with the innovative EnviThan gas upgrading system from EnviTec.
The company currently operates biogas plants in several German states with a total nominal output of roughly 30 MWe, and is now starting to convert its power generation plants to biomethane plants.
As a long-term buyer for the biomethane produced, EnviTec provides the planning security needed for this project.
