Finland-headed gas and energy company Gasum Oy is collaborating with Norway-headed energy major Equinor ASA on a series of liquefied biomethane (bioLNG) bunkering operations in the Port of Dusavik, Stavanger, Norway.
Gasum is bunkering ISCC-EU certified mass balanced bioLNG to Equinor’s chartered platform supply vessel Island Crusader.
The Island Crusader also features battery hybrid technology, which further improves its environmental performance.
The first bioLNG delivery at the Port of Dusavik was successfully carried out in mid-July. Gasum will continue to supply Island Crusader with 2–3 truckloads of bioLNG approximately every other week.
Each truckload contains about 22 tonnes of bioLNG.
Both Gasum and Equinor are committed to ambitious sustainability goals to enable a cleaner energy future. Equinor’s goal is to become a net-zero emissions energy company by 2050 and the bioLNG deliveries to Island Crusader is one step toward achieving this goal.
According to Gasum, biomethane (aka renewable natural gas – RNG) is a fully renewable and environmentally friendly fuel with life-cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that are, on average, 90 percent lower when compared with fossil fuel use.
RNG can be used in all the same applications as natural gas, including as a road and maritime transport fuel and as energy for industry.
Gasum can provide bioLNG bunkering services to all shipping companies with vessels running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) since LNG and bioLNG are fully interchangeable and can be blended at any ratio.
