In Norway, resource management and trading company Geminor AS has announced that it has acquired Rømskog Industrial Park, strengthening its logistics and potentially creating more local job opportunities.
Headquartered in Karmøy on Norway’s west coast, Geminor operates across nine countries as a key player in material and energy recovery throughout Europe.
Situated just an hour from the Norwegian capital Oslo, the acquisition of Rømskog Industrial Park the value of which has not been disclosed, marks Geminor’s fifth strategic integration in the country, following successful acquisitions of Bergen Avfall, Rekom, Bøn Biobrensel, and KEMÅ Fast.
The 10-hectare Rømskog Industrial Park becomes the largest facility in Geminor’s growing portfolio.
The site will primarily serve as a logistics hub for the company’s biofuel operations within Bøn Biobrensel, focusing on storage and processing.
Stimulating local economic growth
According to Geminor, this acquisition is set to invigorate the local economy by creating new employment opportunities in the Rømskog area.
The industrial park has long aimed to foster local activity and job creation. This acquisition aligns perfectly with that vision. Rømskog’s proximity to local timber and forest residues makes it ideal for our biofuel operations. Moreover, the region’s skilled forestry workforce presents an excellent talent pool for our future growth, said Kjetil Vikingstad, CEO of Geminor.
Establishing a Nordic Biofuel Hub
The addition of Rømskog expands Geminor’s network of strategically positioned facilities across Europe, enabling the company to manage a diverse range of waste fractions and biofuels tailored to varying market demands.
While biofuel operations will be the primary focus, the site’s expansive area offers the potential to support other aspects of Geminor’s operations as needed.
This acquisition holds significant value due to its strategic possibilities. We are eager to explore optimal ways to utilize this space, added Kjetil Vikingstad.
The acquisition comes as Geminor is handling increasing waste volumes across Europe, particularly in the UK and Poland.
The company continues to prioritize infrastructure development, with Rømskog Industrial Park playing a crucial role in this expansion.
