Martinsons Group AB, one of Sweden's largest privately held sawmilling and glulam manufacturing group has announced that it is investing SEK 120 million (≈ EUR 11.13 million) in its sawmills in Bygdsiljum and Kroksjön in northern Sweden.

The single largest part of the investment is for a new biomass-fired main boiler for the facility in Bygdsiljum.
We want to increase the production of wood products, glulam, and cross-laminated timber (CLT). With these investments, the necessary space is created to both increase further processing capacity and to eventually achieve production of 580 000 m3 of wood products per year, said Olov Martinson, Production Manager at Martinsons.
In recent years, Martinsons has made several investments in its sawmills in Bygdsiljum and Kroksjön with the aim of securing quality and increasing production, where the investment in camera assisting sorting in Kroksjön is part of.
In Kroksjön we have seen, among other things, a very positive development when it comes to the production of building components. It is a facility where, just as in Bygdsiljum, we now are ramping up, said Olov Martinson.
The new main boiler in Bygdiljum is part of a number of initiatives that have been implemented to gradually increase production. The Group has also invested in further processing where the glulam production has been upgraded with equipment that increases both production and quality.
Customers’ demands and wishes on glulam beams are changing and the investments are a way to meet that development. We have also expanded by adding another work shift and conducted new recruitments throughout the company, said Olov Martinson.
The main boiler in Bygdsiljum will be built next year and will be launched in the fall of 2020. Among the benefits are also good environmental performance. The boiler is built to meet an upper limit for emissions of dust – 30 mg/m3 compared to the current 50 mg/m3 emission limit.
When we have all the boilers in place, the new one will be run constantly, which lowers the production’s carbon footprint. In addition, it is operated at 100 percent with biomass in the form of residual products from the forest, ended Olov Martinson.
