Finland-headed forest and energy industry consultancy major Pöyry has announced that it has been awarded an engineering services assignment by Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction Public Company Ltd (STECON) for the Chana Green biomass power plant project Chana District, Songkla, Thailand.
The owner of the project is Gulf Chana Green Company Ltd (Chana Green), a private power producer company and wholly-owned subsidiary of the Thailand-based company Gulf Energy Development Ltd. STECON has been selected as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the 20.6 MWe (net) biomass power project, which will use rubberwood waste as fuel.
According to a statement, Pöyry’s assignment covers complete contractor’s engineering services for the project, including process and plant engineering, plant layout design, civil and structural design, mechanical and piping design, control and instrumentation design, electrical design, and procurement and tendering services.
The overall schedule for the project is 24 months and is expected to have a March 2020 Commercial Operation Date. The value of the order has not been disclosed.
The biomass power plant is being implemented under Thailand’s Small Power Producer (SPP) scheme, whereby 20.6 MW are sold to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). The project reached financial close and received a notice to proceed in early March 2018.
