Brazilian integrated sugarcane ethanol, sugar, and bioenergy major Raízen S.A. has announced that it has commenced construction of its second biogas plant. This will be dedicated to the production of biomethane, aka renewable natural gas (RNG).

According to a statement, the new plant will be installed in Costa Pinto Bioenergy Park located in Piracicaba, São Paulo (SP) where Raízen already operates its first 2nd Generation (2G) Ethanol plant.

Scheduled to start operating by 2023, the company anticipates a CAPEX of approximately BRL 300 million (≈ US$65 million).

The annual production capacity will be 26 million m3 of RNG, and the entire production of the new plant has been commercialized in long-term contracts with Yara Brasil Fertilizantes and Volkswagen do Brasil.

This project further expands Raízen’s Renewable products and services portfolio, reinforcing its “leadership position in energy transition, generating value for customers, consumers, suppliers, and shareholders.”
