Renewa announces fourth Swedish biomass plant project

Finland-based biomass combustion technology providers, Renewa and Swedish peat pellet and briquette producer Härjeåns Energi have signed a contract for the delivery of a 32 MW biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant to Sveg, Sweden. Härjeåns Energi will replace old electric steam generators with a new more cost efficient CHP unit utilising locally available milled peat and forest residues as fuel. The scope of delivery includes the bubbling fluidised bed (BFB) boiler plant and an SCR system for reduction of nitrogen oxides in flue gases with a catalyst.

– Renewa was chosen as the contractor due to its reliable technology and flexible way of working, said Anders Wiklund, managing director of Härjeåns Energi AB.

Härjeåns Energi decided to carry out the project as an engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance (EPCM) contractor together with Calambio Engineering AB.

– Together with Calambio we decided to execute project management, procurement and balance of plant ourselves in order to save in the investment costs. Renewa was ready to negotiate its scope of supply to fit the rest of the plant and willing to tailor the boiler according to our needs, said Wiklund.

The manufacturing of the boiler has started and it will be commissioned in 2017. It is the company’s fourth boiler project in Sweden.
