In Japan, Toyo Engineering Corporation (TOYO), an international infrastructure and industrial engineering and construction company, has announced that it together with compatriot Nippon Steel Engineering Co., Ltd (NSE) have been awarded a contract to construct a 74.95 MWe biomass power plant. This plant will be built in Omaezaki-shi and Makinohara-shi, Shizuoka Prefecture for Omaezakikou Biomass Energy G.K.
The project is being developed by Japan-headed developer and operator of renewable power plants RENOVA, Inc, that recently reached financial close and made a final investment decision on Omaezakikou Biomass Energy GK.
A joint venture between TOYO and NSE will carry out the EPC turnkey contract on a full turn-key basis that includes engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services for a power generation unit. The plant will use wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel.
Since TOYO and NSE signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement in December 2017, both companies have been collaborating in a wide range of areas, including business and initiatives that can be expected to improve each other’s corporate value.
In this project, both companies proposed a “competitive solution by mutual complementation”, which allowed the joint venture to be awarded for this project.
