The liquefied carbon dioxide (CO2) will be produced at the planned carbon capture unit to be built and operated by Carbon Centric at Østfold Energi’s Rakkestad waste-to-energy (WtE) plant.
Here, Carbon Centric will capture, and recover CO2 from the energy recovery facility. The product will meet Linde’s high requirements for quality control, purity, and certification.
The product will be distributed further to Linde’s customers within various market segments.
Example of circular economy
According to Carbon Centric, the project is a good example of a circular economy and the use of surplus energy. Large amounts of CO2 that otherwise are emitted will be captured by Carbon Centric and will be used as a raw material in several applications.
The majority of the CO2 from the energy recovery plant in Rakkestad is of a biogenic origin. This means it is part of the biogenic carbon cycle. Thus using CO2 recycled from this type of process reduces the use of fossil CO2.
The WtE plant will be climate-positive and carbon-negative from a life cycle perspective.
The agreement is very important for the realization of the project and we are proud to receive this recognition from Linde, said Fredrik Häger, Co-Founder and CEO of Carbon Centric.
