According to a statement, the company has decided to develop its first 100 percent dedicated biomass power plant. The 49 MWe output plant will be built on the premises of its LNG-fired 1.245 GWe Yokkaichi CCGT Thermal Power Station in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture on the island of Honshu.

The Yokkaichi plant currently consists of four units, three 220 MWe units and one 585 MWe unit. The planned biomass power plant will use around 150 000 tonnes of wood pellets and 70 000 tonnes of palm kernel shells (PKS) annually. Constructions start is slated for May 2018 with commercial operations to begin in April 2020.
