According to a statement, Côte d’Ivoire plays a key role in EDF’s development strategy in West Africa. Over the last five years, the country has undergone a major recovery, foreshadowing a sustained increase in electricity consumption over the coming years.

Taking into account its energy development needs, and spurred on by the BIOVEA project, which aims to develop a 46 MW (2 x 23 MW) biomass power plant, EDF decided to strengthen its presence in the country by creating a subsidiary named EDF-CI at the end of August 2016.

This new Group company is responsible for carrying out all activities relating to energy project development. Its main objectives will be to finalise the development phase of the Biovéa project and support the launch of a highly anticipated decentralised rural electrification project in partnership with OGE, a California-based start-up.

EDF-CI will also be responsible for exploring the Ivorian market and promoting all of the Group’s offerings, such as in the fields of hydroelectricity and sustainable cities.
