The Lithuanian waste-to-energy (WtE) combined heat and power (CHP) plant joint venture (JV) Kauno Kogeneracinė Jėgainė (KKJ), owned by Lietuvos Energija and Fortum Heat Lietuva, has announced that it has signed contracts for the main equipment and the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Management (EPCM) consultancy.
According to a statement, KKJ signed contracts on March 17 for the main equipment and the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Management (EPCM) consultancy. The next stage in the project is the finalisation of engineering and according to plans, the plant construction activities are to start in the autumn, 2017. The CHP plant is expected to be commissioned in the mid-2020.
The investment of the project announced in October 2015 amounts to approximately EUR 160 million. Fortum’s direct commitment is approximately EUR 27 million. The electricity capacity of the Kaunas waste-to-energy plant is 24 MW and thermal capacity is about 70 MW.
