In December 2017, Norway-headed renewable energy major Statkraft ASA and Sweden-headed forest owners association Södra launched Silva Green Fuel AS, a jointly owned company that would build an advanced biofuels demonstration plant based on forest feedstock at the Statkraft biomass hub on the former Södra pulp mill site in Tofte, Norway.
According to SGF, the testing of the technology in the demo facility, which was completed towards the end of 2021, is well underway and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023.
An investment decision in a full-scale production facility may come in 2024.
Replacing fossil fuels in the transport sector with renewables will make a significant contribution to reducing climate emissions. Production of biofuel at Tofte will be important for the development of the technology and can become a competence center as the basis for a new and exciting industry, said Per Are Hellebust, CEO of Silva Green Fuel.

The growth of biomass in Norway is today far greater than the felling. Using this natural resource for the production of renewable fuel and local value creation will be a sustainable and important contribution to decarbonizing the transport sector.
The announcement of the new permanent positions will come this week. We are looking for people with a wide range of skills to prepare a possible investment decision in a large commercial facility. Silva Green Fuel needs people who know operations, and have knowledge of advanced chemical process technology, project managers, operators, and economists with a background in finance and marketing operations, explained Per Are Hellebust.
The two owners of SGF have ambitions to build more such facilities in both Sweden and Norway.
We hope there are good candidates locally both in Tofte and the whole of Asker municipality. This is an opportunity to be part of the green shift with a new and exciting technology that contributes to creating new industries and reduces climate emissions, ended Per Are Hellebust.
