Uno-X Hydrogen has announced that it will build the first two hydrogen refuelling stations in Bergen, Norway. Enova will provide almost NOK 20 million (≈ EUR 2.2 million) in funding support.
Uno-X Hydrogen has announced that it will build its first two hydrogen refuelling stations in Norway’s second largest city, Bergen. Enova SF, a public enterprise owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to promote and support commercial deployment of innovative green energy solutions, will provide NOK 19.8 million (≈ EUR 2.19 million) in funding support to the project. Uno-X Hydrogen AS, a joint venture company owned by Nordic transportation fuel retailer Uno-X Group, hydrogen technology developers NEL and speciality gas providers Praxair, has previously announced an ambition to have 20 hydrogen refuelling stations in Norway by 2020.
– Uno-X Hydrogen aims to build 20 hydrogen stations by 2020 as part of our greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction contribution. We are very pleased that Enova has approved our application for support to build two stations in Bergen, said Roger Hertzenberg, CEO of Uno-X Hydrogen, adding that the plan is to have the stations operational as soon as all regulatory approvals are in place.
Capacity and experience building
As part of the project, Bergen Taxi, Hordaland County and the City of Bergen will purchase five hydrogen-fuelled cars to being with. Enova’s contribution will be used towards the two refuelling stations and the electrolyser to supply the stations with hydrogen.
– What is innovative about this project is that hydrogen cars are put to use in the taxi business and other players with larger captive fleets. They have now an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience regarding the use and maintenance of hydrogen cars. We are excited to see how much the project will help to make hydrogen cars a more suitable alternative, both for these actors and others, said Audhild Kvam, marketing director at Enova in a statement.
